Loddon Bank Manager, Steve Burton, 51, and his son Sam, 21, who is a Special Constable, are to be trained as volunteers for Caudwell Children’s Destination Dreams and they each need to raise £1200 in sponsorship for dream trips to Florida.
Destination Dreams is an organised once-in-a-lifetime holiday for children fighting life threatening illnesses. Every child has a terminal prognosis or a severely life limiting or threatening condition. The trip is to Disneyworld for 7 days during early December.
The children are accompanied on the trip by their immediate family. The family stay in their own villa at a unique resort specifically designed for children with a high medical dependency. During the stay, the children are supported by Caudwell Children’s medical team, staff team and volunteers.
The week aims to create happy memories for families affected by severe or long-term illness, as well as serving as a break from the routine of painful treatments, hospital appointments and education.
Steve and Sam will be volunteers for the trip, offering vital support to the families during their holiday whenever they need it.
As one of Steve’s fundraising challenges he is going to spend a day looking after a group of 3-4 year olds at a local Nursery. Steve’s wife Mandy is a Nursery Nurse in Loddon and when she said how difficult her job can be at times Steve challenged her comment, leading to the Nursery in turn to challenge him to spend a day looking after the youngsters. The Nursery have agreed to do a week’s fundraising for Steve in return for his help on Tuesday 23rd October.
Sam has already organised a coffee morning which raised over £100. but both of them need plenty of sponsorship to help them reach their targets.
Loddon Players will be supporting Steve, who is their Chairman and has written the script for their January Pantomime “Rumpelstiltskin”
